The Alonso Tellechea brothers dock their ship

Neither of them rules out continuing to navigate in other classes and without the requirement of having to fight for podiums in World Cup events, European or world championships.

Born in Argentina, they moved to Spain very young and also very soon stood out in the world of sailing, achieving important trophies, mainly in the 49er class, in which both sailed together. In others they did it separately.

They were the ones who achieved Spain’s classification in this class for the London and Rio Olympics. However, they did not compete in either of the two. In the first because the Spanish Federation decided that the Spanish representation would be Iker Martínez and Xavier Fernández, despite the fact that they had not competed all year in this class. The Federation also did not respect that the Alonso brothers achieved qualification for Rio and accepted a claim from Diego Botín and Iago López. The decision was that both boats played the classification in a last regatta in which the Cantabrian couple finished better and they were left out again.

The Hispanidad trophy already has winners

Álvaro Alonso in Optimist, Fernando Alonso in ILCA 6 and the couple formed by Carlos Ordóñez and Pablo López, in Snipe, were the winners of the XVII Hispanidad Trophy, organized by the Real Club Astur de Regatas and held last weekend. In Optimist, after Álvaro Alonso, María Simal and Gonzalo Jaudenes qualified. René Velázquez and Bruno González-Manjoya accompanied Fernando Alonso on the podium of the ILCA 6 class. In Snipe, Carlos Ordóñez and Pablo López had no choice and they prevailed in all four rounds. José Palacio and Alberto Suárez were second and José Luis de la Rubia and Ignacio Buitrago, third.
