Roger Federer falls from the world ‘top10’ 1,736 days later

Roger Federer will stop being part of the world ‘top10’ on October 18 in favor of Hubert Hurkacz. The Pole has passed the Swiss, by a margin of three points (3,288 to 3,285), after winning this past morning at Frances Tiafoe by 6-3 and 6-2 in the third round of the 1,000 Indian Wells Masters.

As it happens, Hurkacz was also his last 2021 executioner on the grass at Wimbledon with a final donut in the quarter round.

Norwegian Casper Ruud is the other tennis player who has overtaken the Helvic legend since the start of the Californian TMS.

And it is that Federer is paying little by little his inactivity. In the last two seasons he has only played 19 games, with a record of 14 wins and five losses.. All this spread over just six tournaments.

The triple arthroscopy in his right knee has left the champion of 20 majors with no options to climb the world rankings.

It was a matter of time before Roger came out of the top ten positions, something that had not happened since January 16, 2017 when it appeared in position 17.

In the update of the lists next Monday, after 1,736 days, the legend of 40 years will disappear from the privileged positions.

It could fall further until the end of the campaign. It all depends on how Jannik Sinner, Denis Shapovalov and Diego Schwwartzman do it.

Federer has questioned his participation at the start of the next season in the first tour of the antipodes. You don’t want to get back on the slopes until you feel like you are physically fit after such a long break.
