One billion two hundred million is the amount of the financing partnership agreement signed on Friday, October 15, 2021 between the Government of Benin through the Ministry of Sports and the MTN Benin telephone network. These are two agreements signed on the one hand with the Beninese Basketball Federation for the promotion of Basketball through the organization of a Junior Basketball Super League, and on the other hand with the Government of Benin in through the Beninese School and University Sports Office (OBSSU) and the Beninese Football Federation (FBF) for the organization of the National School Championship. A historic event that took place at the EYA Community Center in Cotonou in the presence of several actors from the Beninese sports world.
According to the Managing Director of MTN Benin, Madame Uche OFODILE, “900 million CFA francs will be allocated to the development of the Basketball Super League. The other part (300 million CFA francs) will be used for the development of the National School Football Championship, a first in Benin and in Africa, the 2021 edition of which won over the apex bodies, in particular FIFA and CAF which no ‘did not hesitate to support this great initiative ”. For her, this partnership between MTN Benin and the Ministry of Sports will allow a real development of sport in the various hamlets of Benin with the detection and promotion of grassroots talents.
“This day is a special day” said the Director General of the Beninese School and University Sports Office (OBSSU), Mr. Donald Alexis ACAKPO, for whom, this ceremony marks the beginning of a historic partnership between MTN Benin and the Ministry of Sports with regard to the promotion of grassroots sport, particularly football and basketball.
“On September 18, at the end of the Elective General Assembly of the Beninese Basketball Federation (FBBB), I announced the Benin basketball revolution. The opportunity is offered to me today to confirm this announcement and to commit myself to the Minister of Sports and the DG / MTN Benin to pool skills and efforts to promote grassroots basketball through the deployment of ‘a Junior League’ said Ismahinl ONIFADÉ, President of the Beninese Basketball Federation.
After expressing his joy, the Minister of Sports, Mr. Oswald HOMEKY thanked MTN Benin for understanding the vision of the Government of Benin, which consists of doing things in the long term. He said he was satisfied with this mutual commitment which “testifies to your understanding of things”. Through the will of the Head of State Patrice TALON and his entire government, he continues, the dynamic of integrating the private sector into the financing of sport has materialized in our country. And this partnership announces a revolution, a new beginning for basketball. “We can say with pride today, with this partnership, the development of Basketball, that’s it! »Proclaimed the authority in charge of sports in Benin. Also he brought a message of hope to all clubs, basketball enthusiasts by notifying them that the march towards the African Basketball League is underway because, he said, all the parameters are now reunited. “From today we will start counting down the days and minutes. Every training session, every game will have to be done very seriously. It is with this objective that we want to reveal our country through basketball ”indicated Minister Oswald HOMEKY.
Note that with the signing of this partnership agreement between the ministry in charge of sports and the general management of MTN Benin, the basketball and school sport revolution will be effective in our country. We strongly believe in it.
