KV Mechelen continues its great series in Ostend and is approaching leader Union to two points | JPL match day 13

Jupiler Pro LeagueSpectacular evening by the sea. KV Mechelen took a hard-fought victory on the field of KV Oostende: 2-4. Wouter Vrancken’s troops go into the weekend in second place thanks to a 16 out of 18.

Little enthusiasm in the opening phase. Until suddenly, just before half an hour: ‘Comedy Capers’ at KV Oostende. Defender Fortes wanted to relieve, but blasted straight at his teammate D’Arpino. Storm received the ball as a gift and served Cuypers, who scored his third goal in four matches (0-1). Ten minutes later it was price again. A steel-hard center from Storm zoomed towards the far post, where Mrabti gave Malinwa a double lead (0-2).

Blessin intervened at the start of the second half. He threw top scorer Gueye, who started on the bench because of too little work in the previous matches, into the fight. However, KV Mechelen made it 0-3. Cuypers dived into the back of the Ostend defense, reached the back line and found the again accurate Mrabti.

Books? Not so easy, KVO thought. Gueye got his gram by quickly making it 1-3. Goal number nine already this season for the Senegalese. The home team pushed on, there was momentum again. A pin from Bätzner went centimeters wide, D’Haese hit the bar with a treacherous cross. Mechelen had a hard time and conceded a second goal. Jäkel headed in the connecting goal (2-3). Meanwhile, tempers grew heated. Mechelen-T2 Fred Vanderbiest was shown red and sent to the dressing room. He missed the redeeming goal of substitute Hairemans, who secured the 2-4 final score. Koziello’s red card (2x yellow) was no more than a footnote.

Malinwa continues to play nicely at the top of the standings. KV Oostende will have to recharge after a 5 out of 15.
