Chris Führich’s Return Expected Against Bayer Leverkusen: Hoeneß Praises Increased Efficiency

In Bremen, Chris Führich was surprisingly missing from VfB Stuttgart’s starting line-up, but the national player is expected to return against Bayer Leverkusen. The dribbling artist has long since achieved his personal goal for the season, as Sebastian Hoeneß reveals.

Before this season, the coach and Führich sat together and discussed “that it has to be at least double digits” in terms of scorer points, says Hoeneß. That’s it, specifically since matchday 16, when Führich scored his fifth goal of the season in a 3-0 win against FC Augsburg. At this point, the 26-year-old also had five assists to his name. Now there are seven in both categories, so a total of 14 scorer points.

“Chris has already shown in previous years what he is capable of. He is now just doing it more continuously,” praises Hoeneß. In fact, the issue of efficiency was a big one for the blonde, which had a lot to do with decision-making. When do I close? When do I lay across? When is another hook appropriate? Above all, Führich has made a huge step forward under Hoeneß.

The fact that he recently sat on the bench in Bremen could also have something to do with the fact that he recently lacked this level of efficiency. His last scorer was actually a few weeks ago with the goal against 1. FC Union on March 8th, although he did not deliver any decent performances. In any case, Führich had an enormously invigorating effect as a joker against Werder, and he is very likely to start again on Saturday in Leverkusen (6.30 p.m., LIVE! on kicker).

It is logical that his performances make Führich more attractive to financially more powerful competitors. As is well known, the right-footed player has a special connection to Dortmund as a former Borussia player, so the interest there seems to be a little more concrete than with other potential advertisers. But even if Führich decides to change, Hoeneß doesn’t have to be worried about the wings in the new season. Finally, in addition to Silas, who is currently in poor form, but who is also a candidate for double-digit scorers, there is also Jamie Leweling in the squad. Although he usually comes from the right, in terms of efficiency he is in no way inferior to Führich. He scores or assists every 120 minutes in the current Bundesliga season (Führich: 162). And with a possible transfer fee for Führich, the purchase option from Union loan Leweling, which should be around 5 million euros, could easily be financed.
