France Football announces nominees for the golden ball with Neymar on the list

This Friday (8/10), France Football announced the 30 players nominated for the best player in the world. Among some surprises, stamped stickers such as Neymar, Cristiano Ronaldo, Lionel Messi, Kylian Mbappe and Erling Haaland were present. Ederson is in contention for the Yashin award, which honors the best goalkeeper of last season.

Neymar, by the way, is the only Brazilian on this list, which has four Italians, very much driven by the 2020 Euro Cup title. This logic no longer happens between teams. Manchester City, champions of the Champions, had more nominees than Chelsea, the champion, 5×4.

Among the names to appear for the first time are English midfielder Phil Foden of City, 21, Gerard Moreno, Europa League champion with Villarreal, and Pedri, 18, of Barcelona.

Simon Kjaer is another surprise on this list. Milan’s Danish defender was well known after granting first aid to Christian Eriksen when the midfielder suffered a sudden illness in the Euro Cup.

However, of these, only De Bruyne is the favorite for the prize. N’golo Kanté and Jorginho, Champions League champions with Chelsea, take the lead. The three shared the podium in the vote for the best player in Europe, which had the Italian-Brazilian as the winner.
