AAt the annual general meeting on November 25th, members and fans of FC Bayern Munich want to get the club to influence FC Bayern München AG, the professional division of the German record champions, to let the sponsorship contract with Qatar Airways expire in 2023 and in future will not conclude any contracts with the airline owned by the emirate or other companies in which the majority is Qatari.
The Mainz lawyer Michael Ott as well as bloggers and journalists who are well-known in fan circles are behind the application received by the association on Friday. They also want to change the articles of association so that a three-quarters majority at the general meeting would require the parent club’s stake in FC Bayern AG to fall below 75 percent.
Substantial parts of the fan scene view the Qatari sponsorship, which has supported the club since 2016, very critically due to the violations of human and freedom rights in Qatar.
