The Forces Armees et Polices team bade farewell to Cameroon in front of the media on May 04, 2021 at the Multipurpose
Sports Complexe in Yaoundé. This occasion allowed the press to question the readinesss of this team for the BAL which
will take place from May 16 to 30, 2021 in Kigali, Rwanda.
How long and uncertain it was! Since March 2020, the whole of Africa has been waiting for the Basketball Africa League (BAL).
Forces Armees et Polices Basketball Club awaited this event.
Cameroon’s representative at this inaugural competition flew later that May 5 to Kigali, the capital of Rwanda. This event stems
from the historic union of the National Basketball Association (NBA) and FIBA Afrique.
“It is a great first that the NBA joins forces with the African basketball organization to marshal a tournament,
Cameroon succeeded after a real fight to qualify among the twelve teams”, says Colonel Jackson Kamgain, President of Forces Armees et Polices (FAP) Basketball.
ABSENTIES FOR THIS CAMPAIGN
Jordan REZENDEZ who was a big help in qualifying the Forces Armees et Polices Basketball team for the BAL is not in the squad due to injury.
The youngest of the team, Landry Bilong is also absent from the selection due to illness. Simon BILEG and Engelbert BELECK will not be part of
the expedition to Rwanda. For this first participation, FAP’s goal is “to learn, but that doesn’t mean we go there to observe. We are going to
show what we are capable of. We had a very good preparation. Thank you to the President of the Republic who has provided the necessary means for
the Forces Armees et Polices Basketball team to prepare for a month already. We are ready and we will do our best to go as far as possible ”.
Colonel Jackson KAMGAIN, President of FAP Basketball . When leaving the country, coach Lazare ADIE NGONO said he was impatient
to start this competition with his foals: “we are envious to start this competition in order to show that in Cameroon, basketball is indeed present.
Despite the sanitary conditions, the preparation was carried out optimally as possible. Group B is an absolutely tough group but like I said we are
not going to worry about our opponents.We are going to mount our strategies, and we are going to compete at a high level by defending not only the
colors of the Forces Armees et Polices but also the colors of the nation in general, ”he concludes.
