BOLANAS.COM – Elkan Baggott stated that he was ready to return to defend the Indonesian national team after admitting to be prevented by Ipswich Town last June.

The Indonesian-British half-breed defender, Elkan Baggott, has officially declared a new pledge for his ancestral country.

Elkan Baggott sent an apology to PSSI and hoped to be able to defend the Indonesian national team again, Monday (25/10/2021).

The letter is the latest chapter in Elkan Baggott’s career with the Indonesian national team, which has stalled since June 2021.

Elkan, born October 23, 2002, first wore the Red and White uniform in September 2021.

At that time, Elkan was called by Shin Tae-yong in the U-19 Indonesia national team training camp which was preparing for the 2021 U-20 World Cup.

The 192 cm tall defender played in friendly matches against North Macedonia (twice) and Hajduk Split.

However, Elkan sparked controversy when he refused to join the senior Indonesian national team which will compete in the 2022 World Cup Qualifiers in Dubai, United Arab Emirates, June 2021.

The Covid-19 pandemic was indeed at its peak at that moment, so the British government restricted the movement of citizens, including athletes like Elkan.

In his letter to PSSI, Elkan claimed to have received instructions from the British government and his club, Ipswich Town, not to visit the Indonesian national team in Dubai.

The sound of Elkan Baggott’s letter addressed to the General Chair of PSSI, Mochamad Iriawan, related to the summons from the Indonesian national team.

“The reason at that time was that the British government and my club advised me not to come because the Covid-19 situation in Dubai was really bad,” Elkan wrote in a letter released by PSSI (25/10/2021).

“And if I travel, I feel very risky.”

Thus, it was revealed that Ipswich Town was the party that prevented Elkan from strengthening his country.

Currently, Elkan has unanimously decided that he will defend the Indonesian national team again after the world situation is getting better.

“I am now ready to defend and give everything to help the Indonesian national team to where it should be,” said Elkan.

Elkan’s letter came too late to allow him to defend the Indonesian U-19 national team which will compete against Australia tonight.

However, he can wear the Garuda logo again in the November international break, the 2020 AFF Cup, or the 2022 U-23 Asian Cup should Indonesia qualify.
