Murray beat a Top 10 again after a year

Andy Murray seems to be back. The Scotsman, currently 156th in the world in the ATP ranking, won a fantastic victory against Hubert Hurkacz (10th) by 6-4, 6-7 (6) and 6-3 in the ATP 500 in Vienna. And he beat a Top 10 again after a year.

The last performances of the former world number one were demonstrating the growth of the British. In Antwerp, although she reached the second round, she beat Frances Tiafoe in a marathon match of almost four hours, putting her physique to the test. While in the last three tournaments (Indian Wells, San Diego and Metz) he had been eliminated by tennis players in a great moment: Hurkacz himself, Casper Ruud and Alex Zverev.

Now, full of confidence, Murray had the pleasure of achieving something that was difficult for him: defeating a Top 10. During 2021 he had faced Ruud, Zverev, Tsitsipas, Berrettini and Rublev. All of them, with negative results. His last triumph against a player of the main positions had occurred in August 2020, at the Masters 1000 in Cincinnati, against Zverev.

In the last four years, the champion of three Grand Slam trophies, He has only been able to beat four players within the Top 10: Hurkacz (Vienna 2021), Zverev (Cincinnati 2020) and Kei Nishikori (Roland Garros 2017) and Tomas Berdych (Doha 2017).
