Madrid’s Tamara Sanfabio has achieved victory “at home” leading the Marea Rosa from the starting gun.

Madrid has once again welcomed the Central Lechera Asturiana Women’s Race with 18,000 women who have completed the slightly more than 7 kilometers traveling through such emblematic points of the capital as the Puerta de Alcalá, the Cibeles or the Plaza de Colón, until crossing the finish line on the Paseo de Camoens. It has been a very exciting morning, of reunions and stories of overcoming, with a leading role for the Paralympic athletes Sara Andrés, Adiaratou Iglesias and Desirée Vila, who have received the emotional tribute of the “Pink Tide”, along with the Olympic gold in badminton Carolina Marín, ambassador of Banco Santander, who has sponsored the race.
Despite the logical restrictions and prevention measures to continue fighting against the Coronavirus, such as wave starts and the use of a mask at the start and after crossing the finish line, the 18,000 women have been able to join the race on a very festive morning , in which a message of encouragement and the fight against breast cancer has been launched again, to promote sports practice among women of all ages, and to strongly support the different solidarity and vindication projects of the role of women in all social spheres.
In sports, the Madrid athlete Tamara Sanfabio has led the “Pink Tide” from the start and has won a much sought after victory in this event. Sanfabio has won the Seville or Gijón Women’s Races in previous years, and he wanted to add the Madrid event to his record. “It was very exciting, I knew I had to give it a try and I arrived in good shape. Crossing this goal with my daughter in my arms has been very special, because of all that this race means for women. I have won in other cities and I had the thorn of not having been able to climb to the top of the podium here in my city and with my family, “said Sanfabio, who has also won the category of mothers and sisters. , with Amaya Sanfabio. English-born Belgian Charlotte Cotton, European trail master champion, crossed the finish line in second place, followed by Laura Izquierdo, third. The top-5 was completed by Recuerdo Arroyo (fourth) and Cristina Rozalen (fifth).

La Marea Rosa maintains the spirit of solidarity of previous editions and makes a donation at the end of the circuit to the Spanish Association Against Cancer and will continue to financially support three foundations focused on protecting women in different areas: Wanawake Mujer, Pulseras Rosas and Clara Campoamor. In addition, 80 100% solidarity bibs have been put on sale in Madrid in favor of Bey-Proaction for the Madrid Women’s Race and collaborate with the #retogema, led by the athlete Gema Hassen-Bey who has been a pioneer in Paralympic fencing.
Among the priority objectives is the effort to incorporate women of all ages to the regular practice of sport, fight against cancer and raise awareness about the importance of prevention, as well as promote healthy lifestyle habits to avoid it as far as as possible, and combat gender violence and social and educational inequalities suffered by women.
