Sitting in case of Malaysian Paralympic Athletes having their gold medals revoked for being 3 minutes late

TOKYO, KOMPAS.com – Athlete from Malaysia, Muhammad Ziyad Zolkefli, was stripped of his gold medal for arriving three minutes late in the Tokyo 2020 Paralympics final, Tuesday (31/8/2021).

Muhammad Ziyad Zolkefli is a Tokyo 2020 Paralympic athlete in the F20 category of shot puts for participants with intellectual disabilities.

Reported from Malaysian media The Star, Muhammad Ziyad Zolkefli’s gold medal was revoked, even the world record he broke was not recorded, because in the final he was recorded “Did Not Start” (DNS) or in other words he was disqualified.

In the final round, Muhammad Ziyad Zolkefli broke two consecutive world records.

His first throw of 17.31 meters beat the world record of 17.29 meters set at the 2017 World Para Athletics Championships in London.

Then in the third throw he broke his record just now with a distance of 17.94 meters.

Muhammad Ziyad Zolkefli’s chronology is late

The Star reported, Muhammad Ziyad Zolkefli was declared DNS because there was a protest from the Ukrainian team who claimed he was late in reporting to the Call Room before the match started.

Similar protests were filed against Australia’s Todd Hodgets and Ecuador’s Jordi Patricio Villalba.

Both were also classified as DNS, but did not end the fight as podium winners like Muhammad Ziyad Zolkefli.

Even so, the three athletes were still allowed to compete because the committee felt they had a logical reason for arriving late.

“They were late, they probably had a logical reason for being late, and because of that we allowed them to compete and look at the facts afterwards,” said International Paralympic Committee spokesman Craig Spence.

However, World Para Athletics (WPA), which manages track and field for Parasports, said there was no justifiable reason for the athletes’ delay.

It said the decision was made under World Para Athletics Rule 5.5 on “Failure to Report to the Call Room”.

The rules state that if athletes are not present in the call room as scheduled, they will be displayed in the results as DNS.

The appeals of Muhammad Ziyad Zolkefli and two other athletes were also rejected.

As a result of the disqualification, the gold medal was transferred to Maksym Koval from Ukraine.

His team mate, Oleksandr Yarovyi, won silver, while the bronze went to Efstratios Nikolaidis of Greece.

The reason Muhammad Ziyad Zolkefli is three minutes late

The Guardian reported that Muhammad Ziyad Zolkefli, Todd Hodgets and Jordi Patricio Villalba were three minutes late in the Call Room.

Spence displayed, the three late athletes pretended they had not heard the announcement to gather or be heard in a language they did not understand.

However, Spence explained, the other athletes could get there in time.

Netizen Malaysia is very angry

Netizen Malaysia has vented its great anger on social media over the withdrawal of the gold medal of the Tokyo 2020 Paralympic athlete in the F20 shot put, Muhammad Ziyad Zolkefli.

World of Buzz on Wednesday (1/9/2021) reported that the Ukrainian Embassy in Malaysia was also the target of anger netizen Malaysia, because the gold medal was transferred to the country’s athlete, Maksym Koval.

As a result, the Ukrainian Embassy in Malaysia temporarily deactivated or locked the locks on their social media accounts which were flooded with angry netizens from “Neighboring Countries”.

The Instagram account of the athlete Maksym Koval was also a victim of the attack netizen Malaysia, even now out of hand because it was hacked.

Koval then created a new Instagram account to apologize, but it’s still being raided netizen Malaysia is deeply disappointed.

International Paralympic Committee spokesman Craig Spence regrets the attitude netizen An emotional Malaysian on social media called it very rude and ridiculous.
