Riddick Bowe gets back in the ring!

Riddick Bowe was crowned the undisputed world heavyweight champion in 1992!

The “comeback flood” of former boxing champions is entering the next round! On October 2nd, ex-heavyweight world champion Riddick Bowe wants to let his fists fly again. The now 53-year-old will step into the ring in Miami (Florida, USA) against the former NBA star Lamar Odom.

Mockery and ridicule: Violent reactions to the Bowe comeback!

At the latest after boxing legend Evander Holyfield (58) failed to return to the ring, you might think that the boxing grandpas’ comebacks are enough. But things can always get worse! Even the sad and embarrassing Holyfield defeat against the former MMA champion Vitor Belfort (TKO in round 1) does not seem to slow down the next daring venture of another ex-champion.

At the age of 53, Riddick Bowe now also wants to climb into the rope area again. BOXEN1 already reported on the alleged return of the former two-time heavyweight world champion at the beginning of July. Since yesterday it is now (unfortunately) official. Bowe will face former NBA star Lamar Odom, 41, in a show fight on October 2nd in Miami, Florida.

Courage to be embarrassed: Riddick Bowe also tried out other martial arts!

The boxing fans reacted in the social networks with a lot of scorn and ridicule: “Ohhh no … not again!” Wrote (for example) a visibly annoyed boxing fan in a comment. Other fans were even harder in their formulations with the aging boxing oldie. The reason for that questionable comeback of Riddick Bowe is probably mainly a financial emergency.

After his active professional career, Bowe came into conflict with the law on several occasions. There doesn’t seem to be much left of his fight fees. In 2008, the American made a comeback and won in Mannheim against Gene Pukall from Berlin lackluster on points. Later Bowe also tried muay thai – unsuccessfully!

In the early 1990s, Riddick Bowe was one of the absolute heavyweight elite. In November 1992 he celebrated his greatest success: With a unanimous victory on points over the hitherto undefeated Evander Holyfield, Bowe crowned himself the undisputed world champion (WBC, WBA, IBF). Three years later he still secured the WBO belt when he was able to defeat the British Herbie Hide prematurely in 1995.
