Days after start the NFL season, New England Patriots released quarterback Cam Newton and his place will be taken by rookie Mac Jones.

The low of Cam Newton with the Patriots revealed hours before the deadline for NFL teams to leave their rosters of 53 players ready before the season begins on September 9.

Patriots analyst Pablo Perillo explains that coach Bill Belichick felt it was time to integrate rookie Mac Jones in the lineup, but “it is not clear how Newton was fired”

The analyst assures that it is possible that Cam Newton was not interested in staying as a reserve and Belichick agreed to let him go.

Newton was 7-8 as a starter for the Patriots., in the team’s first season after the departure of Tom Brady to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and New England closed the year with a 7-9 record.

Newton was the starter in all three preseason games, but he missed five days of pregame training against the New York Giants due to failing to abide by the NFL’s COVID-19 protocols and having to comply with quarantine.

Mac Jones was drafted by the Patriots with the 15th overall pick this year’s draft pick from Alabama.

The rookie QB finished the preseason with 36 completions on 52 attempts for 389 yards, with a touchdown without interceptions. He was sacked four times in the last exhibition game Sunday after being sacked just once in the previous two preseason games.
