New post for the 52-year-old

The 52-year-old CEO of the German record champions is following in Michael Gerlinger’s footsteps. Kahn should now also shape the work of the association on an international level.

CEO Oliver Kahn will in future represent the record champions Bayern Munich on the board of the European Club Association ECA. As the ECA announced at the end of the General Assembly in Geneva, Kahn will follow in Michael Gerlinger’s footsteps from November. The director of legal affairs at FC Bayern and vice-chairman of the ECA is stepping down from the post after around four years in office.

“Together, as the ECA, we want to face the challenges that are waiting for football as a system, but also as part of the society hit by the pandemic,” wrote Kahn on Twitter. Football needs “visions and strong leadership, but above all great cohesion among the clubs.” This is the only way for club football to remain a “European model of success”.

At the side of Watzke and al-Khelaifi

On the board of the ECA, the long-time national goalkeeper Kahn will meet the bosses of Borussia Dortmund and Bayer Leverkusen, Hans-Joachim Watzke and Fernando Carro, among others. Since the Super League quake in the spring of Paris St. Germains club boss Nasser al-Khelaifi has been chairman.

As a reaction to the corona crisis, the meeting approved among other things the advancement of a “financial reform” for stabilization, which also ensures sustainability and competitiveness through regulation.
