NBA 2K22’s cross-play status and intergenerational progression explained

NBA 2K22 is coming out soon and the developers have explained its crossplay and cross platform multiplayer status as well as its use of cross-gen progression.

Scheduled for launch on September 10, the developers recently provided an in-depth gameplay walkthrough that talks about all of its new badges, new hit counter, and other quality-of-life improvements. They also recently revealed the PA advertisers for each arena.

While the title looks fun with its traditional gameplay and crisp details like sweaty bald heads and soggy armpits, there’s some bad news when it comes to cross-play.

Does NBA 2K22 offer cross-platform multiplayer?

There is no crossplay or cross-platform multiplayer in NBA 2K22.

This marks another year where friends on PlayStation, Xbox, and PC can’t play together, which is disappointing. Unfortunately, no explanation has been provided as to why the feature remains absent from basketball as well as most other sports games.

MLB The Show 21 is one of the more recent sports titles to add cross-platform multiplayer, so hopefully it gets added to NBA, Madden, and FIFA next year.

Is NBA 2K22 cross-gen?

There is intergenerational progression for NBA 2K22 on PlayStation and Xbox.

The game’s FAQ states that this matters to MyTeam. Basically, you will be able to field any of your players on the PlayStation or Xbox generation systems.

However, cross-play will still not be available in all console families. This means that PS4 players will not be able to play with PS5, and ditto for Xbox One with Series X / S.

While it’s disappointing that the PS4 can’t play with the PS5, ultimately that’s because there are some significant differences between the last-gen and next-gen versions of the game.

How to buy a cross-gen package

You can buy the cross-gen pack for £ 74.99 on PlayStation or Xbox.

This will provide you with the PS4 and PS5, Xbox One and Series X / S versions of the game depending on your platform. It will also come with the following bonuses:

10,000 MyTEAM points + 10 MyTEAM tokens 22 MyTEAM promotional packs MyCAREER skills boosts Jordan Diamond shoe MyTEAM card MyTEAM Coach card Pack 4 MyPLAYER t-shirts

Just to let you know, you’ll also get the latest gen and next gen versions if you buy the 75th Anniversary Edition instead. If you buy the Standard plan, you won’t be able to upgrade to the next generation for free.
