More than thirty young people participated in a day to detect badminton talents – Diario El America

The initiative allows to know the competences and aptitudes of children and adolescents who wish to achieve high performance in this discipline.

A new day of detection of sports talents held the Mindep-IND in Antofagasta, this time focused on the discipline of badminton, an appointment attended by about 40 children and young people between 9 and 14 years old, who dream of reaching high performance.

The Guibaldo Ormazábal Gymnasium was the scene of this activity, in it the athletes were part of a circuit of physical and anthropometric tests by the Measurement Team of the Promises Chile program, which allowed them to know the competencies and aptitudes of the participants to face directed training and professionalized.

The Seremi del Deporte, Roberto Meza, highlighted the high attendance of this day, which he commented “reaffirms the great interest that both athletes and their families have in joining our Promises Chile program and developing in high performance. As Mindep-IND we want to continue promoting this type of detection days, but for this we require the commitment of everyone in terms of increasing vaccination coverage and reinforcing self-care measures ”.

Ignacio Montenegro, a 14-year-old badminton player, described the tests as “quite tough but they weren’t that difficult; we tried to do our best and although I got tired, I used a lot of energy “, while Kenneth Baxter, 13, said that it was an activity” very entertaining, we did long jump, throw the ball, as well as races to measure speed and resistance; I invite you all to sign up for this type of initiative because they are good for your health and you have a good time with your friends ”.

Likewise, the badminton coach of the Chile Promises Program, Susana Salinas, said that “it is very important to have the base of boys who like sport and I am happy with this significant number of participants, especially for badminton, which is not a sport. massive, but I believe that these detections are a push so that in the future we will have a greater number of boys competing at national and international levels ”.

Let us specify that Antofagasta is considered a national power of badminton, being the cradle and hotbed of current national teams such as the young Alonso Medel, who has just completed an outstanding participation in the Mexico Open, hence the high interest of the educational communities for being part of this discipline is inserted in the Promises Chile program.
