Eleven-Time European Champion Simone Faggioli to Race in Verzegnis-Sella Chianzutan Hill Climb

SAYING. The Verzegnis-Sella Chianzutan will be able to count on an absolute champion at the start. Among the drivers who will race in Carnia on Saturday 25th (day dedicated to official trials) and Sunday 26th May (race day) there will be nothing less than Simone Faggioli, eleven-time European uphill speed champion as well as seventeen times Italian mountain speed champion.

The Tuscan driver, born in 1978, will take part in the race with the Nova Proto NP01 Bardhal with which he is currently at the top of the Italian Mountain Speed ​​Championship Central Northa series of which the event held in the Tolmezzo valley represents the fourth round (the event is also valid as the Fvg Championship).

Asd E4Run, the association that organizes the race, is thus ready to welcome the champion from Bagno a Ripoli, already a five-time winner in the saddle (2004, 2006, 2007, 2011 and 2013) as well as the “big” rider among the 112 who have decided to take part in the 53rd edition of the hill climb . For the overall victory there will be a great fight between Faggioli and the other competitors at the starting line in the most powerful cars, those of the E2 SC-SS 3000 class.

Among the rivals to keep an eye on most are Diego Degasperi (Norma M20 Gea Zytek)who is looking for his first career success in Carnia, and Franco Caruso (New Proto NP01-2).

The presence of the Friulian Marietto Nalon, 75 years old, also stands out in the class, at the start on a Dallara Nissan. Five E2 SC-SS 1600 class machines in which Stefano Gazziero (Nova Proto Np03) and Enrico Zandonà (Wolf Thunder Gb08) could shine.

The E2 SH +3000 class car such as Alessandro Gabrielli’s Alfa Romeo 4C Picchia will put on a show, but also the GT class vehicles such as the two Ferrari 458 Challenges (in the hands of Roberto Ragazzi and Fabrizio Vettorel), the Porsche 991.2 Gt3 of Ezio Bellin and Sebastiano Frijo’s Lamborghini Huracan. There will be no shortage of historic cars such as Michele Massaro’s BMW M3 E30, Paolo Deotto and Marco Naibo’s Ford Sierra Cosworths as well as Nicholas Macorig’s Fiat X1/9.

The time trial will develop along the usual 5,640 km which starts from the shore of Lake Verzegnis and reaches Sella Chianzutan. The average gradient is 7.2 percent with a difference in altitude of 396 metres: the start is set at 500 meters above sea level and the arrival at 896 meters above sea level.

The engines will start on Saturday with the tests (from 9am onwards) while the highlight is scheduled for Sunday with the actual race. The first heat will start at 9am, the next half an hour after the last car has left the saddle. Road closures are expected from 5am on both days until the end of the race sessions. The awards ceremony will be held in Sella.
