HSV comment: Walter can now feel the love of the fans

The 2-0 win at Werder Bremen was HSV’s 49th win in the 2nd Bundesliga. Seldom before had there been a threesome in the lower house that had been so frenetically acclaimed by the fans. Successes against Werder are worth far more than three points for the appendix.

History is made in these derbies, heroes are born, and the affection for coaches can also largely depend on how such games end. Tim Walter therefore rose in favor with fans on Saturday evening. Because his players had internalized the dominance he had taught for a good 60 minutes so that they deservedly were ahead in Bremen – even if the once again totally overwhelmed referee Stegemann had helped, because after Schonlau’s foul on Ducksch he was not on yellow-red for the HSV captain and penalty decided for Werder.

HSV invited Werder Bremen to numerous great opportunities in the final phase

In retrospect, however, you will not be able to exclude the last half hour of the game. Werder was invited to half a dozen big chances by HSV – also because Walter never wants to deviate from his plan A. That is almost always spectacular, but also risky and in this case only led to success due to Bremen’s striking weakness in the final.

The exhilaration of the Derby victory must not obscure the view. For all its attractiveness, guided tours still need greater defensive stability. Maybe not a plan B, which Walter definitely does not want to get out of the drawer, but a few adjustments to plan A so that the derby win is followed very quickly by an anniversary three-point number 50 in league two.
