Draw, Nerazzurri are not yet in the Champions League

Kiev

Shakhtar Donetsk vs Inter Milan meet in the second matchday of Group D of the Champions League. Both teams had to settle for a goalless game.

Shakhtar vs Inter, which took place at the Olimpiyskiy Stadium, was completed on Wednesday (29/9/2021) early morning WIB. Both teams took turns attacking each other, but neither was able to score a goal until the game was over.

This 0-0 result still makes Inter sit in third place in Group D with 1 point and without scoring a goal after previously losing 0-1 to Real Madrid. Shakhtar sit at the bottom of the table with one point after losing 0-2 to the Sheriff in the first game.

If you refer to the comparison of Inter’s pace in the Italian League, the results in the Champions League so far are certainly disappointing. That’s because the Nerazzurri are so far the most fertile team in Serie A with 20 goals.

The course of the match

Shakhtar managed to press Inter early in the match. Manor Solomon fired from outside the penalty area in the fifth minute, but the ball still missed the target.

Two minutes later, it was Inter’s turn to threaten. Edin Dzeko fired home from Denzel Dumfries’ pass, but the ball was blocked by the Shakhtar defender.

The home team had to make substitutions in the 10th minute. Lassina Traore has sustained a serious injury to her right leg following Dumfries’ body alignment.

Inter almost scored in the 14th minute through a counter-attack scheme. Nicolo Barella’s shot from outside the penalty box hit the crossbar, even though goalkeeper Andriy Pyatov was dead.

Not long ago it was Alan Patrick’s turn to threaten Inter. His shot from inside the penalty box headed for the goal, but Samir Handanovic was still able to block it.

A crisis occurred in the Inter penalty box in the 20th minute. Tete grabbed a wild ball, but the direction was still slightly wide of the target.

Edin Dzeko wasted a golden opportunity in the 33rd minute from a corner kick. The ball shot by the former AS Roma striker was still aiming at the top of the goal even though he had grabbed it from very close range.

Shakhtar could control Inter throughout the first half. On the other hand Inter pressed on the counter-attack, but until halftime the score remained 0-0.

Shakhtar immediately threatened when the second half had been running for three minutes. Dodo flashed a cross in front of the Inter goalmouth that went past Handanovic, but the ball was quickly cleared by Milan Skriniar before it was grabbed by Pedrinho.

Lautaro Martinez got the ball in the penalty box from a miscoordination of Shakhtar’s players in the 64th minute. The Argentine Inter striker was too eager to shoot until the ball went over the crossbar.

Pyatov made a brilliant save in the 86th minute. He parried a measured shot from Joaquin Correa and scored a corner for Inter. Pyatov again secured the Shakhtar goal after brushing off Stefan de Vrij’s header.

Shakhtar and Inter continued to take turns attacking each other throughout the second half. Although several times were able to get closer to the penalty box, both teams failed to score until the game was complete.
