The arrival of Massimiliano Allegri revived Juventus’ hopes of advancing again in the Champions League. However, Danilo admits Juve are not candidates for the championship.
Allegri returns to coach Juventus to replace Andrea Pirlo who was dismissed after the 2020/2021 season. In Allegri’s first spell, the Bianconeri won the Scudetto five seasons in a row and reached the Champions League final twice in 2015 and 2017.
However, after being left by the 54-year-old coach, Juventus have always run aground in the round of 16 in the last two seasons. Even lost the crown of the Italian League champions that Inter Milan won last season.
It is undeniable that there are a number of clubs that are championed to lift the 2021/2022 Champions League trophy. Among these are Paris St. Germain, who did a massive recruitment by bringing in top players like Lionel Messi and Sergio Ramos.
Danilo’s former club Manchester City are also in the running for the title after reaching their first final last season despite being beaten by champions Chelsea.
“Allegri has made history at this club, he has a winning DNA,” Danilo told his YouTube channel Fui Clear, quoted Football-Italia. “We are not candidates for the Champions League, but I believe in hard work and we are all motivated to face the season in a competitive way.”
“On paper they are above us,” admitted the Brazilian right-back, comparing Juventus’ chances to Man City’s.
Juventus are in Group H of the Champions League with defending champions Chelsea, Zenit St. Petersburg, and Malmo. The Old Lady will open with an away match at the Malmo headquarters on Wednesday (15/9/2021) early morning WIB.
