Clara Azurmendi, Carla Suárez, Pablo Abián and Alejandro Blanco have been some of the personalities present in an informative event held at the Spanish Olympic Committee, as a preview of the Badminton World Cups that will take place in Huelva from the end of 2021. “One of the most watched sporting events on the planet that will reach 640 million homes ”, as highlighted by the president of the Spanish Badminton Federation, Andoni Azurmendi.

“The World Cup started 3 years ago, when we celebrated the 2018 European Championship and the City Council committed itself to the organization. Since then, progress has been made and everything is practically ready, since in just 75 days the best players on the planet will take to the court ”, affirmed Azurmendi.

From November 28 to December 4, Huelva will host the World Cup in the senior category, and from December 12 to 19, the absolute one. “A historic event that will bring to the Huelva capital more than 2,000 athletes from 65 countries between the two modalities”, includes the press release issued by the Federation. In addition, they point out that the event will have a direct impact of 16 million euros in the city and more than 270 million indirectly.

In his speech, Azurmendi celebrated the great increase in badminton licenses, but especially that of the number of participants in recent years. “It is a good start so that their practice can be consolidated and with time they federate,” he added.

In large part, thanks to a Carolina Marín who “is going to be in Huelva because it is her World Cup, regardless of whether she can play it or not.” “The achievements she has achieved in many years have made her an ambassador, not only for our sport, but also for the city of Huelva and Spain,” says Azurmendi.

Also taking part in the event was Alejandro Blanco, president of the COE, who pointed to badminton as “a very important sport for Spain.” “We have the best player in the world such as Carolina Marín and also Pablo Abián, a four-time Olympian, two great references in the world of badinton,” he said.
