a chat with coach Massimo Padovano

With the hope that the pandemic and lockdown will no longer be the masters, Pallacanestro Recanati has restarted in view of the imminent start of the 2021/2022 sports season. In addition to the youth sector, while awaiting the minibasket, engines running for the first team participating in the C Silver Marche-Umbria championship. The young group trained by the expert coach Massimo Padovano divides his days between athletic sessions at the “Tubaldi” stadium and technical-tactical work on the woods of the Palestra Patrizi given the unavailability of the PalaCingolani struggling with the scheduled restyling works.

And it is with the coach from Recanati that we had a chat between one training and another.

Slowly it is returning to normal, what went through a coach’s head during the lockdown and how did he change (if he did) the way you approach basketball?

“We hope that this normality holds and that there is a little more stability than in the past, unfortunately we live for the day and with the terror of stopping again. The lockdown made me realize how precarious our work is and how much our rights are too little protected. For some clubs it was easy to put contracts aside, but no one thought of us coaches who went from being the protagonists of a project to objects put aside ”.

Speaking of the field, are you satisfied with the team that the club has set up for you and how do you judge these first days of work?

“The team is completely different from what we had imagined, two players were missing who for us were supporting axes like Andrea Morresi and Andrea Gurini who had assured us to stay but then changed their minds and settled elsewhere creating us not few problems completing the roster. What is most regrettable, however, is that now giving one’s word is worth less and less if not almost zero. Despite this we are working well, the lads are concentrated and are very committed, when the difficult moments come we will see the caliber of the group ”.

Let’s find out about the championship: who are the favorites and what will be Recanati’s role in group B of C Silver?

“In the most absolute way, there is a team that is the favorite by gap and it is Porto Recanati which has built a roster that has nothing to do with the category. I find it hard to understand how he can lose even a single game, it’s an extra luxury team. A step below I put San Marino, Fermignano, Montemarciano and Urbania, which are historically always very equipped and difficult. As regards specifically our group, excluding Porto Recanati as mentioned, there will be a lot of balance and the value of the formations will be discovered along the way. Our goal is to enter the playoffs and we will do everything to achieve it ”.
