Rookie Matt Mitchell strengthens SIG Strasbourg

After announcing the arrival of Gaylor Curier, SIG Strasbourg is embarking on its recruitment of foreign players. This Monday, the Alsatian club has just formalized the signing of Matt Mitchell (1.98 m, 22 years old). Not drafted last Thursday, the Californian decided to launch his career in Europe rather than in the G-League. Position 4-3, he hopes to know the same trajectories as Bonzie Colson (MVP of the season of Jeep ELITE and BCL) and Ishmail Wainright (supposed to join the Toronto Raptors), whose career took off after a year in Alsace.

With 15.4 points at 43.6% shooting success (including 33.7% at 3-pointers), 5.6 rebounds and 2 assists on average last season, he was voted MVP of his conference, the MWC, and greatly participated in the qualification of his team for March Madness. Renowned defender (member of the five defensive of the MWC in 2020-2021), he presents an athletic and mobile profile, allowing him to be able to hold very different profiles.

“Matt is a young player with great potential, who has many qualities and who is very explosive, commented his future coach Lassi Tuovi on the club’s official website. He’s a modern basketball player with long arms like Bonzie and Ish last season. He understands the game very well. He is a very humble youngster. It is certain that he is not completely ready and that it will take a little time for him to get used to European basketball, but his potential is enormous. He has a good shooting ability and can be used in different positions. It will bring us the same things as what we were looking for last season: not necessarily size, but more power, energy, explosiveness and mobility in positions four and three ”.

With Jean-Baptiste Maille, DeAndre Lansdowne, Gaylor Curier, Matt Mitchell, Léopold Cavaliere, Ike Udanoh and Yannis Morin, SIG Strasbourg already has seven players under contract for the 2021-2022 season.
