Jorge Martín repeats pole in Austria

Austrian GP

The Madrid native confirms his good condition by starting first again at the Red Bull Ring after last week, with Quartararo second and Bagnaia third; Márquez will start fifth

The Spanish Jorge Martín (Ducati-Pramac), who already achieved the ‘pole’ and the victory last week at the same Red Bull Ring circuit, will start again first in the Austrian Grand Prix, 11th round of the MotoGP season, Sunday at Spielberg.

This Saturday in qualifying, Martín was ahead of the leader of the World Championship, the French Fabio Quartararo (Yamaha, 2nd), the Italian Francesco Bagnaia (Ducati, 3rd), the French Johann Zarco (Ducati-Pramac, 4th) and the Spanish Marc Márquez (Honda, 5th).

“I always work very well under pressure and it was one of those days,” acknowledged the Spaniard, who fell in the third free trials and went through Q1 before taking advantage of the aspiration of his teammate Zarco to achieve the ‘pole’ with a new circuit record (1: 22.643).

I am living a dream. I love the bike, I love the team ”, celebrated the 23-year-old rider, a debutant in the premier class and despite this three times ‘poleman’. Martín hopes to “fight for victory” on Sunday, which would be his 2nd in MotoGP as well as his third podium.

For his part, Quartararo, who was on pole for most of the session, was “a little disappointed” despite being “in a good position to start the race”, which will take place at 12h00 GMT on Sunday.

The third row was taken by the Spanish Joan Mir (Suzuki), Aleix Espargaró (Aprilia) and the Portuguese Miguel Oliveira (KTM). South African Brad Binder (KTM), Spanish Pol Espargaró (Honda) and Japanese Takaaki Nakagami (Honda-LCR) finished in the fourth row.

Italian Valentino Rossi (Yamaha-SRT) will start 18th.

Spaniard Maverick Viñales does not compete this weekend, after being suspended by his Yamaha team, who accuse him of intentionally causing damage to his bike last week.

Briton Cal Crutchlow continues to replace Italian Franco Morbidelli on Yamaha-SRT, who is recovering from an injury
