Guard Reggie Bass retires from Illini basketball – Somos Prensa

CHAMPAIGN, Ill. – Reggie Bass, a three-star shooting guard in the Class of 2022, announced Tuesday that he is retiring from the Illinois basketball team.

Bass got engaged to Illini in March and announced his release on social media.

“With that said [I] will reopen my recruitment to all schools, “Bass wrote on his Twitter page.” Thank you Illinois, but my recruitment is now open. Illinois has a pair of four stars, the top 100 guards verbally engaged in Sencire Harris Y Jayden Epps.

Bass, a 6-foot-5 left-hander, initially chose Illinois over Kansas State, Oregon State and Providence. Bass is the 188th player in the class of 2022, according to the 247Sports Composite ranking.

Bass is the second player in the Class of 2022 to withdraw from the program, joining AJ Storr who has since been engaged to St. Johns, since the departure of the former assistants Chin Coleman Y Orlando Antigua to jobs in Kentucky. Antigua spearheaded Bass’s recruitment.

Illinois Head Coach Brad Underwood has a revamped coaching staff that includes Illinois graduates Chester Frazier, who was the top recruiter at both Harris and Epps, earning Illini’s top recruiting victories early in his tenure. Underwood completed his staff by promoting Geoff Alexander from assistant head coach to a full-time and contract assistant job Tim Anderson, who was previously at DePaul.

Bass is originally from Muncie, Indiana, but played basketball for Tennessee at Hamilton Heights Christian Academy last season and spent part of the year at Elevation Prep in Fort Wayne, Indiana. He will end his senior year playing for Indianapolis. Arsenal Tech.

Epps is ranked the 59th player on the 247Sports rankings and it was a great achievement for Illinois after its release from Providence earlier this year. Frazier worked quickly to get the talented scoring point guard.

Harris is the No. 91 player in the class and his draft was also led by Frazier, who has made an incredible impact in his first few months on guard. Illinois could be on the cusp of a considerable roster change after this season with the departure of the super seniors Trent Frazier, Gives’Monte Williams Y Alfonso Plummer. Second year guard Andre curbelo he’s on the radar of NBA teams and looks forward to a chance to make the professional leap after the season.

Expectations are high for Illinois this season with the return of Big Man Kofi Cockburn along with Frazier and Williams. Illinois has a deep list that includes Jacob Grandison, Austin Hutcherson, Coleman Hawkins and three intriguing freshmen at Luke Goode, Ramses Melendez Y Brandin the Underground.

Cockburn nearly made the jump to the NBA draft, retiring at the last minute only to briefly enter the transfer portal, and could be in his final college season.
