Ghent police visit Club Brugge fan who would sit between home supporters during AA Gent-Club Brugge | Ghent

GentAA Gent has given a demonstration against Club Brugge in front of its own audience. The ‘battle of Flanders’ ended in a 6-1 victory in favor of the Buffalos. It was already apparent a few hours before kick-off that it would be a loaded game. Then the Ghent police paid a visit to a Club Brugge fan who had announced on Twitter that he would follow the match in the field of the AA Gent supporters.

The man in question had obtained a ticket for Sunday’s game. He announced on social media that as a Club Brugge fan he would end up among the Buffalos and whether someone could give him tips, meant as a joke. On Sunday morning he suddenly had an unexpected visitor. It was the Ghent police, who came to tell him that it might not be such a good idea to attend the match, given the tense atmosphere between the two supporter groups.

Still permission

“We did indeed visit the man,” confirms spokesman for the Ghent police Matto Langeraert. “We have outlined the situation and explained that there could be a riot if it becomes known that he supports Club Brugge.” The man in question confirms this, who wishes to remain anonymous. “They advised me not to go to the game. The fact that my name was not on the ticket, it was a promotional gift, could also cause problems. Eventually the police chief gave me permission to go, but I didn’t. My sentence was over,” said the man, who still questions the incident. “For me, this is an upside-down world, where I am advised to stay at home, while others who are willing to use violence go free.”

The man emphasizes that he absolutely does not point the finger at the police officers, who say they were only doing their job.
