Solid pitching from San Diego held Colorado back

Miguel Díaz rejoined the Padres for the fourth time this season and featured in the dominant performance of his fellow relievers in San Diego’s 4-2 win over the Colorado Rockies on Friday.

Trent Grisham drove in two, a day after he ended the game with a single in the Padres’ 9-8 loss to Washington after overcoming an eight-run deficit and tying the biggest comeback in team history.

Four San Diego relievers shared five 1/3 innings, allowing just one hit and striking out eight. Diaz (3-1) allowed a hit and won in a two-inning two-thirds effort. The Padres have won nine straight games against Colorado at Petco Park, their longest streak at home against any opponent.

With Blake Snell on the disabled list a day after All-Star Game Yu Darvish left the field with a back problem, the Padres called up Reiss Knehr, who had an ERA of 3.90. in 11 starts with San Antonio at Triple A.

In his major league debut, Knehr escaped a bases loaded predicament with little damage by allowing only one run after he walked Elías Díaz of Venezuela.

When San Diego trailed 2-1 in the sixth, Jake Cronenworth singled at first in the batting turn, Manny Machado doubled and Tyler Kinley replaced Kyle Freeland (1-3).

For the Rockies, Raimel Tapia 5-0. Venezuelans Yonathan Daza 3-1 and Elias Díaz 3-1, an RBI.

For the Padres, the Dominicans Fernando Tatis Jr. 4-0; Webster Rivas 4-1 and Miguel Díaz 1-0. Jurickson Profar from Curaçao 1-0.
