National team: Hansi Flick’s plan revealed

With Toni Kroos, one of the biggest stars of recent years has already announced his departure from the German national team. Ilkay Gündogan could soon follow the Real Madrid playmaker – because new national coach Hansi Flick may be planning without the former BVB player.

After Toni Kroos, Ilkay Gündogan is also allegedly considering resigning from the national team. That is what “Bild am Sonntag” wants to know.

The 30-year-old midfielder from Manchester City therefore wants to consider in the coming weeks how and whether he will continue with the DFB team at all.

The decision-making will also and above all influence the new national coach Hansi Flick. According to “BamS”, Gündogan wants to have an intensive exchange with him before deciding whether or not to resign.

Does Hansi Flick rely on “his” Bayern professionals?

According to the report, Gündogan could lose his regular place in midfield headquarters under Flick. The former Bayern coach allegedly wants to rely primarily on Joshua Kimmich and Leon Goretzka in the future.

To this end, Flick should continue to plan firmly with Thomas Müller. The more offensive position in midfield would also be taken.

In view of the reserve role, Gündogan could decide to retire before the start of the new competitive season after a total of 49 international matches.

Departure after almost exactly ten years for Ilkay Gündogan?

At the 2021 European Championship, the 30-year-old was in the starting line-up in all three group matches, but did not play in the round of 16 against England (0-1).

Gündogan made his debut in the national team in October 2011. During the European Championship qualifier against Belgium (3-1), the then Dortmund player came on for Philipp Lahm in the 84th minute.

Almost exactly ten years later, the DFB team chapter for the midfielder could end prematurely.
