Annik Kälin secures Paris Olympics spot with strong performance at Hypomeeting in Götzis

During the Hypomeeting in Götzis (Austria), considered the Mecca of multiple events, Annik Kälin finished 2nd in the heptathlon, with 6506 points. A total which allows Grisonne to validate its ticket for the Paris Olympics.

In Austria, the 24-year-old athlete finished 9 points behind her Swiss record (6515), which she established in 2022 in Munich, where she won European bronze. Geneva’s Mathilde Rey, resident of COVA Nyon, finished 12th (5969 points), although she discovered the Götzis event for the first time at 24 years old.

Among the men, Simon Ehammer experienced a little disillusionment. Leader after the first day of the decathlon, where he notably managed a jump to 8m25 in length, the Appenzeller was still in provisional second place after the seventh of ten events on Sunday. But his last place in the javelin competition caused him to be demoted to fourth place.

Mentally and physically broken down, the 24-year-old athlete finally decided to throw in the towel before the final 1500m event.
