Guard Rihards Lomazs moves to Turkey

Now it’s official: Guard Rihard Lomazs leaves the Bundesliga basketball team. The violets announced on Thursday that the Latvian international was moving to Turkey for Super League team Merkezefendi Basket in Denizli.

“It had long been clear that he would leave us,” said BG managing director Frank Meinertshagen. “We had made him an improved offer during the season that was even a bit above the pain threshold, but he turned it down immediately.” The departure of Lomazs was a big loss given the quality of the Latvian, Meinertshagen emphasized: “He’s athletic contributed significantly to our ending the season so well. ”

The 25-year-old Lomazs had been signed up by the violets at the beginning of the year and was one of the pillars of the team of head coach Roel Moors in the second half of the season. When he beat Telekom Baskets Bonn after extra time, he set a new season record with 38 points.
