Mexico will search with 4 archers to make history in Tokyo

MORELIA, Mich., July 15, 2021.- With the aim of surpassing the two medals won in London 2012, and the only ones so far for the country in a summer fair, the Mexican archery team refines its aim in the National Center for the Development of Sports Talents and High Performance (CNAR), of the National Commission for Physical Culture and Sports (Conade), heading for the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games, which will begin in 10 days.

Aída Nabila Román Arroyo, Alejandra Valencia Trujillo, Ana Paula Vázquez Flores and Luis Antonio Álvarez Murillo, will be in charge of representing Mexico on July 23, when they go into action at Yumenoshima Park, with the individual qualification round, in both branches.

To meet the objective set, the four archers train in Mexico City, where, in addition to marksmanship, they work on technical and tactical aspects, as well as on the different weather conditions that can occur in the Japanese capital.

With more than two decades in archery and an Olympic medal, Aída Román, at 33 years old, appears in her fourth games, after attending Beijing 2008, London 2012 and Rio 2016, showing herself as one of the figures of greatest experience of the Mexican trident.

Alejandra Valencia, from Sonora, with a wide sports career and at 26 years old, will play her third summer fair in Tokyo, after London 2012 and Rio 2016; while, Ana Paula Vázquez, originally from Coahuila and 20 years old, is the youngest member of the Mexican team, which will fulfill the dream of competing in its first Olympic Games.

They have formed a powerful representative that combines experience and youth, since they have shot together since the Central American and Caribbean Games Barranquilla 2018, where they achieved gold, in addition, in the Pan American Games in Lima they won silver and in the world cups of the discipline , have registered runners-up in the three stages of the contest.

The Mexican hat trick won its ticket to Tokyo 2020 by winning first place in the specialty world qualifier, which took place in Paris, France, last June.

For his part, the 30-year-old Luis Álvarez from Baja California is experiencing his best sporting moment, after obtaining the place in the Pan-American Archery Championship, which was held last March, which will give him the opportunity to represent Mexico in an Olympic fair for the second time, after London 2012.
