Frankfurt / Main – Stefan Holz, Managing Director of the Basketball Bundesliga (BBL), has rated the approval of politics for the return of fans in the sports arenas as positive.

“First of all, I think it’s basically good that there is a nationwide rule,” said wood of the German press agency. This is “a step, but that can’t be the end,” added the 55-year-old functionary. Specifically, Holz criticized that the rules for an audience of less than 5000 people are currently still too vague – it is much clearer about that.

“I think it is still out of round for under 5000 fans,” said Holz. Since there are often fewer than 5000 spectators in the halls at the BBL, there are still some questions unanswered. “The other leagues also have the question mark a bit in their face,” explained Holz. The Bundesliga boss called it “sobering” that the easing steps continue to depend on the corona incidence values.

As a suggestion, Holz brought into play that, under certain conditions, the hall could also be used to full capacity again. “I don’t know what speaks against a full hall with vaccinated people,” said Holz.

The heads of the state and senate chancelleries decided on Tuesday that stadiums and sports arenas can again be used to capacity with up to 50 percent spectators. The regulation is initially valid until September 11th, in the BBL the league does not start again until September 23rd or 24th.
