Spain holds its breath: Llorente is second player to test positive | European Football Championship 2020

A few days before the start of the European Championship, the Spaniards are only about one thing: corona. Because with Diego Llorente’s positive test, the counter is now at two. On Sunday, Sergio Busquets also tested positive and it was decided to finish the friendly match against Lithuania with the U23.

On Monday, the entire selection was subjected to a corona test. According to the Spanish Football Federation (RFEF), all those tests were negative, but a day later, the RFEF reported a second positive case with Llorente.

It is not clear for the time being whether Busquets and Llorente should leave the European Championship selection permanently. The two are now in quarantine. National coach Luis Enrique has already called up 6 reserve players, who will train separately from the group for the time being. Enrique has until Saturday to make changes to the Spanish European Championship team.

Players who test positive must remain in quarantine for at least 10 days. That means that Busquets and Llorente will miss the duel with Sweden anyway. Ironically, Sweden is also struggling with corona: Dejan Kulusevski and Mattias Svanberg have tested positive.
