Étienne Briand is in good shape and confident, on the eve of an important fight at the World Judo Championship in Budapest. The Sept-Îles judoka can already be proud to face the best athletes in the world in his category. He can still hope for participation in the Tokyo Olympics.

Antoine Valois-Fortier has more points than Etienne Briand currently and only one Canadian will participate in the Olympics in the under 81 kg category. Antoine suffered injuries. He does not participate in the World Championship. With a few victorious fights, Étienne could join him and force a barrage competition between the two Quebecers.

The pandemic has limited competitions and training for the 28-year-old athlete from Sept-Îles, but he doesn’t believe it has held back his development or affected his resolve.
