Relegated FC Schalke 04 have signed Dutch left-back Thomas Ouwejan and thus presented the fifth new signing for the coming second division season. The 24-year-old is on loan from AZ Alkmaar for a year, most recently Ouwejan was on loan to the Italian first division club Udinese Calcio. Schalke also has a purchase option for the former U21 international.
The squires had previously signed the veterans Simon Terodde (Hamburger SV / Sturm), Danny Latza (Mainz 05), Victor Palsson (Darmstadt 98 / both midfield) and Marcin Kaminski (VfB Stuttgart / defense). At least a dozen players will leave S04 after relegation.
