Vingegaard’s participation in the Tour de France remains uncertain

The Danish professional cyclist Jonas Vingegaard has been back on the bike for a short time after his serious fall, but his participation in the Tour de France remains uncertain. “We hope that Jonas makes it to the tour. “That’s still a big question mark,” said Marc Reef, sporting director of Vingegaard’s Visma team, to the “radsport-news.com” portal before the start of the 15th stage of the Giro d’Italia on Sunday.

The Dane fell so badly on the Tour of the Basque Country on April 4th that he seriously injured his lung. He also suffered several fractures. “His recovery is going quite well, but we’ll have to see what it’s like in the coming weeks,” Reef continued.

No race before the Tour

As a result, Vingegaard will not take part in any more cycling races until the start of the tour on June 29th. His biggest competitor Tadej Pogacar, who is currently dominating the Giro d’Italia and also wants to take part in the Tour, is benefiting from Vingegaard’s difficult preparation.

At the beginning of May, the 2022 and 2023 Tour winner spoke up himself. “Of course I hope to be able to start the Tour,” said 27-year-old Vingegaard. “We don’t yet know exactly what my form will be and how my recovery will continue, but I will do everything I can to be in good form.”
