No rainbow lighting in Munich: Uefa’s muzzle

JNow it’s out. The European Football Union (Uefa) prohibits the city of Munich from illuminating its football stadium in rainbow colors for the European Championship game against Hungary on June 23, in order to demonstrate against homophobia. The decision is no surprise, given the association’s concern that football matches could be used regularly for political and religious rallies – beyond the prayer towards heaven – as happened in the United States after the murder of George Floyd. People prefer to insist on the supposed neutrality of sport, which now even prohibits any form of very simple solidarity.

What does this ban mean, if you think of some Hungarian fans who greeted the French player Kylian Mbappé with monkey sounds and racist shouts?
