Nelly Korda wins the KPMG Women’s PGA Championship, Céline Boutier 7th

It was first time week for Nelly Korda. By brilliantly pocketing the KPMG Women’s PGA Championship, the American not only pocketed her first Grand Slam title, but she also rose to the world’s highest place for the first time.

With two eagles and two birdies, in a last round where the only downside was a double bogey in the 15th, Nelly Korda returned a card of 68, or 4 strokes under par, to win her first Major trophy, with a total of 269 strokes, or 19 under the par, a record in this tournament (tied with Cristie Kerr in 2010, Yani Tseng in 2011 and Inbee Park in 2015).

« I worked a lot, said Korda, just 22. And finally conquer three victories this year, including a major tournament, I have no words, honestly. “Especially since the American came out of a success the week before this Grand Slam tournament, the Meijer Classic.

« I continued my momentum, Petr Korda’s daughter said with a smile. I just played very well during these two weeks. »

“I wanted a Major! “

Nelly Korda is the first American to win a major women’s golf title since Angela Stafford at the 2018 Evian Championship. ” It’s something I’ve been working for since I was 14. […] I wanted to earn a major since my first participation at this level “Korda rejoiced, ahead of her compatriot Lizette Salas (272 strokes).

South Korean Kim Hyo-joo and Italian Giulia Molinaro share third place with 278 strokes, while Thailand’s Patty Tavatanakit and American Danielle Kang are 5th with 280 strokes.

Céline Boutier in the Top 10

While she could clearly join in the fight for the win, Céline Boutier failed to regain the level of play that had placed him 3rd at the start of the last round. Starting five strokes behind, the Parisienne could not do better than a final 75 for a 7th place final at -7 total, casually her third Top 10 in the Grand Slam (5th in the US Women’s Open this year , 6th at the AIG Women’s British Open in 2019).

« It’s hard to end on a day like this, analyzed the Frenchwoman at a press conference this Sunday. But if you look at the week as a whole, I’m still happy to get a Top 10 in a Major. At the start of the week I was not at all comfortable with my swing and my long game, so having managed to get that out of my head to get this place, it’s super positive ».

For her part, Perrine Delacour ended her tournament with a 69 (-3) including five birdies and two bogeys. The player from St Cloud ranks 46th at +2 overall.
