The start of the weekend could not have gone better for Tony Parker and ASVEL… After an impressive victory over rival Monaco, the Rhone club learned incredible news for its future! It concerns the Euroleague, and the future is shaping up worksthem in Villeurbanne!
Did you think Tony Parker was a great player? He is clearly on his way to becoming an equally great leader with ASVEL. Indeed, since he is permanently invested at the head of the Rhone club, he spends “without counting” to build a competitive team on the European level, while putting the best French players at the center of the project!
But to become a reference on a continental scale, you have to compete in the queen competition of European basketball: the Euroleague! Benefiting from an invitation of two seasons, during which the club did more than defend itself with in particular some prestigious successes, ASVEL will now enter the big league permanently!
Indeed, the executive committee of the Euroleague has announced its intention to offer Tony Parker’s team the famous “A License”, which ensures participation in the competition for the next 10 years, with an almost automatic renewal except terrible drop in level. Obviously, the owner of the club was in heaven, as he explained on the official ASVEL website.
It’s a great day! It was a dream when I arrived which is now coming true! I would like to thank everyone who worked on the construction of the project. Everyone has worked hard, as a team, to achieve this goal, and it is not now that we are going to relax our efforts, on the contrary. We now want to prove that we deserve this place among the greatest, we want to place LDLC ASVEL at the top!
Since his arrival in 2014, Tony Parker has always announced his ambition to make Lyon-Villeurbanne a stronghold in European basketball, and he is undeniably on the right track. And he can also thank Jean-Michel Aulas, big boss of Olympique Lyonnais, with whom he recently partnered. The latter also wanted to react.
Admission as a permanent member of the Euroleague today salutes the intense work carried out in synergy by LDLC ASVEL and Olympique Lyonnais. With this permanent ticket for the Euroleague, ASVEL should be able to attract other big names in French basketball ! And why not Victor Wembanyama, the nugget programmed for the NBA?
