De Boer responds to Cillessen’s criticism: “You want a one hundred percent deployable player” Orange

Cillessen expressed his dissatisfaction with the decision of the national coach last week. The 60-time international said he had hardly any complaints and knew no better than to rejoin the Dutch national team after a negative test.

Cillessen was still positive last Tuesday. De Boer had to pass on his final European Championship selection to UEFA on Wednesday and decided to replace the Valencia goalkeeper with Marco Bizot, the AZ goalkeeper. “I had to make a choice,” said the national coach. ,,Are we going for an unfit keeper who you have to get ready in one to two weeks? We have decided not to.”

De Boer emphasized that you deal with keepers differently than with field players. ,,A keeper doesn’t let you play for 20 minutes after an injury to get used to it’, he said. “That kite is not going up. You want a 100 percent deployable player. That’s not Jasper and we don’t know how long it’s going to take. As I said, I have faith in the goalkeepers I have now. As terrible as I think it is for Jasper, we have come to that conclusion.”
