can Morocco qualify?

The coach of the national basketball team, Labib El Homrani assured, Tuesday in Rabat, that Morocco keeps intact its chances of qualifying for Afrobasket 2021, even if the national five must play a crucial match against the Uganda on behalf of Group E of the qualifiers.

The national team will face Uganda on July 8. The Ugandans will also reunite with Egypt and Cape Verde during the same month.

The national team’s preparation camp until the 24th instant takes place in an atmosphere of hope and determination in anticipation of this crucial match, he told MAP.

Confidence has been renewed in the same group that took part in the knockout phase in Tunisia, especially since it is made up of young players who breathed new life into the national team, especially after the victory against the Cape Verde, he added, noting that several players playing abroad deserve to wear the national jersey, but could not be summoned due to health protocol and lack of time.

He explained that the Royal Moroccan Basketball Federation (FRMBB) has decided to rejuvenate the national team, noting that the launch of the national championship has allowed all players to regain their form.

For his part, the player Mohammed Chouaa indicated that the preparations are going under good conditions, believing that the next match will not be easy.

The national team are all set for this decisive match and will bravely defend their chances of qualifying at Afrobasket, he continued.

As for Hakim Zouita, he felt that Moroccan players are aware of the responsibility weighing on their shoulders in order to pocket the qualifying ticket for Afrobasket 2021.

The draw for the Afrobasket, scheduled for Rwanda from August 24 to September 5, placed Morocco in Group A, in case of qualification.

Pool A consists of Rwanda, host country, DR Congo, Angola, and the second in group E of the qualifiers (Morocco, Uganda or Cape Verde).

If at the end of the qualifications Morocco occupies the 3rd place, it will evolve in group D, with Senegal, Cameroon and South Sudan.
