Baseball: Venezuela neutralizes Canada in Olympic qualifying tournament

Caros Perez and Juniel Querecuto each hit a home run, while the Venezuelan pitchers completely neutralized the Canadian attack.

Both clubs were already guaranteed to take part in the next round of games, which will take place this weekend. This loss could hurt the Canadians, however, since the results of the preliminary round are also taken into consideration, in the final count.

Venezuela’s Al Castillo tried unsuccessfully to steal the second goal in the fifth inning.

Venezuela will start this round with a lead over Canada, with the aim of obtaining a participation ticket for the Olympic tournament in Tokyo.

Jacob Robson is the only representative of the maple leaf to have obtained a hit in this duel, in the first round.

The victory goes to the record of Oddanier Mosqueda, while Travis Seabrooke suffers the defeat for Canada. The Peterborough gunner conceded three hits in two innings.

The two teams will now face the United States and the Dominican Republic.

Canada will face the United States on Friday, before taking on the Dominicans on Saturday.

The team with the best record at the end of the competition automatically qualifies for the Olympic Games.

The teams in second and third position will then get a final chance to secure the last available place in the Olympic table.
