ATP tournament in Halle: Roger Federer flies out early – sports mix

That was fast!

Already in the 2nd round at the lawn tournament in Halle / Westphalia it means: Roger out!

Against Felix Auger-Aliassime (20), tennis superstar Roger Federer (39) has to return home unusually early. Despite winning the first set, the maestro loses against the top talent from Canada (No. 21 in the world) with 6: 4, 3: 6, 2: 6. The match on Center Court lasted 1:44 hours.

The Swiss, who looked increasingly exhausted towards the end of the match, had expected it differently. The defending champion and Halle record winner (10 titles) actually wanted to collect some match practice before Wimbledon (starting on June 28) in order to be well prepared for the grass grand slam. Nothing will come of it now.

Auger-Aliassime played cheekily, took advantage of Federer’s unusually large number of mistakes (he allowed 15 break chances) and could rely on his strong serve (13 aces, Federer 5). In the end, Auger-Aliassime made a whopping 24 points more than Federer – Welten!

The Canadian afterwards: “It’s a great win and a great moment for me.”

His next opponent in the quarter-finals will be determined between Germany’s number two, Jan-Lennard Struff (31), and the American Marcos Giron (27).
