In April of this year, Shizuoka Prefecture’s first high school women’s baseball club was born. Director Yoshio Yuge and Principal Eiji Murakami of Tokai University’s Shizuoka Shoyo explained the importance and significance of creating a saucer for women’s baseball and women’s sports, “to expand the possibilities without being bound by stereotypes or prejudices.”
Players who actually play baseball are also discovering new values and possibilities through baseball. Captain Misaki Saito, one of the three second-year students who became a founding member, joined the baseball club for the first time after entering high school. My father and younger brother were playing baseball, so I wanted to do it myself, but there was no local team for girls to play, so I joined the volleyball club in elementary school and the softball club in junior high and high school.
The captain initially longed for a manager
Captain Saito, who felt close to baseball, was longing for a high school baseball manager. I chose the traditional vertical stripes with the intention of realizing that dream, but I was invited by the coach Yugiri to join the women’s baseball club.
“The manager of the baseball club has been a dream since I was little, so I was really worried. I wanted to play baseball myself, but I was worried that the members would get together. I chose to play baseball because I thought it wasn’t there. “
Even though he had experience with softball, baseball was more difficult than I had imagined. In batting practice, it is difficult for the ball to hit the core of the bat. When I was knocked, the hit ball hit my body and bruised.
Still, there is a sense of fulfillment in the time spent with teammates, knowing the joy of baseball. By choosing the player’s path rather than the manager’s path, he also found new options for the future.
“I wanted to be a childcare worker in the future, but I started playing baseball and became interested in the job of mentally supporting athletes.”
When you make an error, the words you get from your friends will be a big help. While putting together 28 members as captain, I learned that each has different problems.
