Hanoi (VNA) – Vietnamese athlete Truong Thi Kim Tuyen secured an official ticket to the Tokyo Olympics by winning first place in the qualifying tournament of taekwondo for Asia, held in Jordan from May 21 to 23, with the participation of 84 athletes from 28 countries and territories.

Kim Tuyen defeated Aneila Aysha Afsar of Pakistan with a score of 22 to 8 to earn the right to enter the semifinals, according to the electronic newspaper Nhan Dan.

Then, she beat Kazakh Fariza Aldangorova 26 to 12 to get the ticket for the final fight.

With this result, Kim Tuyen ensured his entry for the Olympic event in Japan regardless of the outcome of the final.

Vietnam currently has nine official places reserved for the Tokyo Olympics, including athletes Nguyen Huy Hoang (swimming), Le Thanh Tung and Dinh Phuong Thanh (artistic gymnastics), Nguyen Van Duong (boxing), Do Thi Anh Nguyet and Nguyen Hoang Phi Vu (archery), the couple Luong Thi Thao and Dinh Thi Hao (rowing) and Truong Thi Kim Tuyen (taekwondo)./.
