Former BVB star Henrikh Mkhitaryan has complained about his national coach. The 32-year-old is missing in Armenia’s squad for the upcoming internationals against Croatia and Sweden. Mkhitaryan had apparently not expected this.

He wrote on Twitter: “To my surprise, the coaching staff of the Armenian national team informed me, for whatever reason, that I was not nominated for the upcoming games. The reasons given are not convincing for me.”

At the same time, the AS Roma player added: “I wish our boys the best of luck in the games.”

It will be really important in September

Mkhitaryan, who played for Borussia Dortmund in the Bundesliga from 2013 to 2016, is ten times Footballer of the Year in his country. He is considered to be the greatest name in Armenia’s football history. His absence from the squad also amazes the fans. Some national coaches criticized Joaquín Caparrós for his decision on the Internet. Some understood that the internationals against Croatia and Sweden were just tests and didn’t mean much. Caparrós could use the games to test some players for the future.

It will only become really important again in September, when the next World Cup qualifying matches are due. After three games, Armenia is the surprising leader of the table ahead of the favorites from Germany and Iceland. Then superstar Mkhitaryan will probably be there again.
