Nathalie Miclette goes from the back of the camera to the baseball stage

Official photographer of the Quebec Major League Baseball (LBMQ) for an 8th season, Nathalie Miclette took advantage of the pandemic to write two sports novels, with 380 pages for each volume.

The Double Play and Earned Points books were therefore successful when they were put on sale on the Amazon.com platform.

“Writing these books allowed me to go back in time. The two volumes are devoted to a sports photographer, who loves baseball, while her family only has it for hockey. The reader will follow the adventures of two pitchers from the same club, but who do not like each other. The main character looks like me hard at work, but I especially do not run after the pitchers, ”Ms. Miclette emphasized with humor.

The latter drew on her background as an illustrator of the most important amateur circuit in Quebec to write her manuscripts.

“I am not an expert in the discipline, so I used the services of very good league pitchers, including François Lafrenière in Saint-Jean, to extrapolate and develop my fiction novels. I was able to add throwing superstitions to the stories, like things they hear on the mound, while I, I don’t see or hear it in the same way in my position as a photographer, on the lines of sides. “

At his own pace

Meticulous in her daily work in the customer service of an office furniture company, Nathalie Miclette has put as much heart into her novels as behind the lens of her camera, which she manipulates at night.

“I’m not the type who can produce three chapters a day, working full time, but I wrote two hours a day. I took care of the details, just as thoroughly as with my camera. I’m used to spending three hours a night, after games, processing photos and getting them to the newspapers. I tried to translate this intensity into the main character. “

If a third volume is in its boxes, Nathalie Miclette still decided to take a break from writing.

“I would like to elaborate on one of the characters from the second volume. But before that, I have to let some original characters die. I have concentrated on writing for so long that I still have a hard time getting off the hook. It was difficult to write two books in a row. I want to get back to my greatest passion, to be on the field near the players, before taking up the pen again. I am satisfied with the wonderful experience. It is often said that the best angles of photos are those of the most dangerous positioning. By returning to the heart of the action, I will undoubtedly find inspiration for the rest of my writing. ”
