[Yasutaka Tobashira should be fixed as a regular catcher]
――Yokohama DeNA BayStars, who was the director until last year, continues to struggle. How do you see this year’s BayStars, led by Daisuke Miura?
RamirezI think it was a big pain that no foreign player could participate in the early stage of the season. In the case of the BayStars, there are many young players, so the ratio of relying on foreign players is also high. All teams missed foreign players, but I think the damage was greater, especially in the case of the BayStars.
――Do you see “the ideal baseball for new coach Miura”?
RamirezI’ve been the director for the last five years, but it’s not surprising that new directors have new ways of doing things. Now is the time when he is also trying to instill “my baseball” in the team and the players. It’s not surprising that there will be confusion during the transition period, and it’s still the first year of coaching, so it’s about to come.
――From Ramirez’s point of view, what do you think “I would do this?”
RamirezI don’t know the internal situation, but what I personally think about from the outside is how to use the catcher Yasutaka Tobashira. Last year, the stealing prevention rate improved dramatically to .352, and the defense aspect was considerably strengthened. It’s not a bad thing to use multiple catchers, but I wonder if it’s okay to use a little more doorposts.
――In the case of DeNA, the number of starting pitchers for catcher Hiroki Minei has increased since the beginning of May.
RamirezMinei is also a good player, but considering his growth since last year, I think it’s okay to appoint a little more doorposts. Of the six games a week, four games will use Tobashira, and the rest will change catchers depending on the compatibility with the pitcher. I think that such an appointment is good.
――Are there any other points you are interested in?
RamirezAlso, I’m curious about how to use Kazuki Kamizato. Last year, he played 80 games, but hit 30% for the first time since he became a professional player (.308). I think I was determined to be “OK, this year is regular” while I was in good condition and growing, but I don’t seem to be given much chance.
