UEFA continues criminal case: Barcelona, Juventus and Real Madrid risk exclusion from European football | Foreign Football

The creation of the Super League, an elite competition for 15 regular participants, sparked a storm of criticism and protest last month. Due to great pressure from national and international society, nine clubs decided to quickly withdraw as intended founders. Barcelona, Real Madrid and Juventus are still sticking to the Super League for the time being. UEFA therefore decided to open disciplinary proceedings against the three dissident clubs.

UEFA previously imposed only a few fines on the other nine clubs for quickly acknowledging and regretting their mistakes throughout the proceedings. Barcelona, Juventus and Real Madrid, on the other hand, risk harsh sanctions from UEFA with their persistent stance. A possible suspension for European football could be one of the measures.

However, UEFA itself will probably also have to answer for the crackdown on the Super League. A Spanish judge wants to know from the Court of Justice of the European Union whether the football associations FIFA and UEFA have abused their positions of power in opposing the Super League. The request has come from the Madrid Enterprise Chamber.
